Introducing cheese

We decided to try goat's milk cheese on Kiernan since the real issue is cow's milk protein with him and although goat's milk protein is similar, by this age the hope is that it's different enough that he could process it.

But guess what? Goat's cheese is very strong tasting... in apparently a not yummy at all way. And he won't eat it!!

The good news? So far, the small amounts we've managed to try him into eating haven't had any negative effects.

Any tips on how to hide the taste of goat's cheese into things? I'm going to try to melt some into his beloved pasta tonight. Woe is me ;)

I'm sorry, but I'm with K man on the goat cheese thing. I gag just thinking about it! I know, aren't I a BIG help.
Why not try goat's milk instead? Does it smell bad too?

My just-turned-2 year old also has a problem with cow's milk. She really likes goat yogurt. I like to buy a tub of plain yogurt and mix it with a bit of honey or jam. She devours the stuff. She will not drink goat's milk either and I totally understand why, ewww.

You can get goat mozzarella and cheddar from Farm Boy that doesn't have as much of a goaty-taste as straight goat cheese. Farm Boy also has a good selection of sheep's milk cheeses. Might be worth a try. Good luck!

We tried goat's cheese mozzarella yesterday, but he's on to us and won't anything that looks like cheese right now. Great tip on the yogurt! Can you get that at loblaws or do you need to go to a specialty store?

Are you using the soft goat cheese that comes in a little sausage-like thing? I always put it in an oven-proof dish and heat it until it's really spreadable, then top it with cranberry sauce and heat through. It's awesome spread on toasted french bread and the sweet cranberry sauce really cuts the tanginess of the cheese. My kids love it.

Did you never try goat's milk cheese before?
I love it, but then again I am not 18 months old.
I think the idea of melting it into pasta is good. In fact, wouldn't you just substitute it in any recipe that calls for cheese? Or am I missing something?

Melting into pasta failed. The mozzarella failed. Apparently we can't disguise the taste of goat's cheese and he won't eat anything that has it in it. Another challenge is that Eric doesn't like the taste either so it's not like I can make something with it and then we'll eat it if K won't. Nor is it easy to encourage K to eat something we don't like that much ourselves.
I'm going to find that yogurt!

I get goat yogurt at Farm Boy. I haven't seen it at any other main-stream gocery stores.
