Dear doctors who work at the clinic

Do you hate being a doctor, or just working at the clinic? Because every single one of you is a crusty ass when dealing with patients (I'm assuming it's not just me and my son).

Because seriously, saying "Oh it's just a light" in an annoyed voice to a 22 month old when he's not fond of a person he met 10 seconds ago sticking a strange implement in his ear is ass-like behaviour. And you getting a .25 second glimpse into my son's throat and then diagnosing strep seems slightly sketchy too - although I will give you the benefit of the doubt on that one.

Seriously annoyed mommy.

(Kiernan will get his first dose of penicillin ever (I think we've done quite well getting to 22 months without needing any antibiotics) after his nap. I'm allergic to penicillin (but just in a rashy way, not swell up and die kind of way) so I'm a bit nervous. The joys.)

I think there are a lot of doctors who entered medicine solely because someone said, "hey, you're good at science, and a doctor makes good coin, be a doctor!". The ones without the bedside manner should REALLY have stayed in research.

Probably they are crusty because once they became a doctor due to someone saying "hey, you're good at science, and a doctor makes good coin, be a doctor!" they found out that doctors don't make all that much coin, especially after you factor in the student loan repayments, and insurance, and whatever else... So, now you have someone who may never have been really keen on the patient interaction side of medicine, working hard, and not making the zillions of dollars it was implied they'd be making.

I can see how they might become bitter and crusty.

(Sorry, I thought I typed this before, but I guess I didn't)

No matter how busy and ill-suited they are, I'm always surprised when a doctor is nasty to a child.

(there's one doctor here at the hospital where I work that thinks kids are ....well, anklebiters, and you wouldn't believe he didn't want a houseful when he's with them.
Happy kids=happy mums=better patients.)

Hope Kiernan feels better soon!

Yay. Better kid is a better vacation! Miserable kid is MISERABLE vacation.

I think it's just the clinic doctors. They've got about 1 minute to diagnose and recommend treatment. I guess that's why it's Urgent Care - it seems they've got to get 700 through in a morning or they're crap.
